French Students Shine Bright on Provincial Stage

Secondary students from two Burnaby schools took top honours in a provincial French-speaking contest called Dites-le en vidéo, or in English: Say It on Video.

Six Moscrop Secondary Grade 9 students swept the podium in their categories. Additionally, a Grade 10 student at Burnaby Mountain Secondary placed second in her category.

In the contest, put on by Canadian Parents for French, students were invited to submit recordings about topics ranging from their favourite hobby to their perspective on current events.

FRENCH IMMERSION GRADE 9 “a” CATEGORY

  • Asha Parmar, Moscrop Secondary – 1st place
  • Gabe Marinova, Moscrop Secondary – 2nd place
  • Adora Chen, Moscrop Secondary – 3rd place

FRENCH IMMERSION GRADE 9 “b” CATEGORY

  • Maya Piesik, Moscrop Secondary – 1st place
  • Alex Ma, Moscrop Secondary – 2nd place
  • Anapartha Ajrekar, Moscrop Secondary – 3rd place

CORE FRENCH GRADE 10/11 CATEGORY

  • Audrey Fooks, Burnaby Mountain Secondary – 2nd place

February 4-10 is French Immersion Celebration Week in BC, marking more than 50 years of the education program that helps students become bilingual.
