As a district, we have made space available in our schools and on our properties for service providers to offer high quality child care programs for over 35 years.
Child Care Policy
The Board of Education supports the use of its property by licensed child care providers between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm on weekdays, provided the property is not required for K-12 educational needs, early learning programs, or extra-curricular activities, does not disrupt or interfere with the provision of education activities, and does not result in increased costs to the Burnaby School District.

Background: Expanding Child Care Spaces in the District
After a period of extensive consultation with parent groups, child care providers, and other stakeholders, in 2019 the District released its Project Definition Report for Child Care to continue to partner with the Province of BC and City of Burnaby to increase child care spaces on school properties.
New child care spaces were funded at these schools:
- Rosser Elementary – 18 spaces (Lower Mainland Purpose Society)
- Montecito Elementary – 25 spaces (Burnaby Family Life)
- Westridge Elementary – 91 spaces (Puddle Splashers)
- Cascade Heights Elementary – 67 spaces (YMCA BC)
- Capitol Hill Elementary – 25 spaces (Lower Mainland Purpose Society)
- Suncrest Elementary – 54 spaces (Burnaby Neighborhood House)
- Marlborough Elementary – 78 spaces (Burnaby Neighborhood House)
- Marian Learning Resource Centre – 103 spaces (SFU Childcare Society)
- Chaffey-Burke Elementary – 20 spaces (Just B4 Preschool – Burnaby School District) Just B4Preschool
- Stride Avenue Community School – 37 spaces (Burnaby Neighbourhood House)

Are you a non-profit child care provider interested in licensed child care in Burnaby Schools? The District will post a Request for Proposal (RFP) on the BC Bid website if there are any opportunities for new child care spaces in our schools. Currently, there are no active child care Request for Proposals.
