The Class of 2026 has collectively earned more than $10.9 million and counting in scholarships, bursaries, and other awards. From academic and athletic scholarships to recognition of community leadership, the money helps fund graduates’ dreams as they work toward their futures. Every dollar, from large to small awards, helps students to achieve their post-secondary ambitions. Some are celebrating significant scholarship wins, such as the following graduates.

Burnaby North Secondary’s Lar Sisrian received $150,000 for the Uggla Family Scholarship to attend Simon Fraser University where she plans to work toward becoming a lawyer or having a career in public policy.
Vuk Tacic, who graduated from Byrne Creek Community School, earned a Schulich Leader scholarship for the University of British Columbia totaling $120,000. Vuk plans to study mechanical engineering and wants to ultimately work for a robotics company.
Peter Dong, who graduated from Burnaby North Secondary, will be studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston after accepting a $75,000 scholarship for his first year of university at MIT. Peter plans to work toward becoming a software engineer.
Many graduates earned athletic scholarships at post-secondary institutions. Soccer player Torah Betteridge from Burnaby Central Secondary is among those in the Class of 2026 whose sporting abilities earned them a full ride. Torah will be studying Movement Science in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan. Tyler Marsden, also from Burnaby Central, earned a significant athletic scholarship with Oakland University where he will study Business and play NCAA Division 1 soccer.
Three students in the District who are pursuing trades were awarded the Beedie BUILD scholarship, which provides up to $20,000 each for individuals to begin their journey in trades. Abraham Tesfamariam and Tumezgi Tesfalem Kahsay, both from Cariboo Hill Secondary, and Burnaby Mountain’s Damien Alexis will use the money in pursuit of their Red Seal Certification, which is Canada’s national professional standard of excellence for skilled trades.
Seventeen students from the Class of 2026 across all eight high schools were awarded Beedie Luminaries scholarships of up to $44,000 each for their undergraduate studies.
