Roundhouse Exhibition

The fifth annual Building a Better Tomorrow Through Art exhibition features the spectacular creations of students with disabilities or diverse abilities.

The project was started in 2022 by Access program educators at Burnaby North Secondary who wanted to build a platform that supports visibility and allows the public to appreciate the students’ talents.

The goal was to bring the artwork of students with disabilities or diverse abilities from multiple districts together to showcase their creativity. This year’s cross-district art exhibition includes works from youth at Burnaby North, Alpha, Byrne Creek, Cariboo Hill and Moscrop, as well as schools in Vancouver and New Westminster.

Building a Better Tomorrow Through Art is on display during Youth Week from April 29 – May 7 in the Exhibition Hall at the Yaletown Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre.

Burnaby Art Gallery Exhibitions

Striking student art is displayed in two exhibitions at the Burnaby Art Gallery and is a result of a more than 40-year partnership between the gallery and the District.

Arts Alive 2026: (de)Construction Exhibition

Located on the main floor, the exhibition from the Arts Alive program features more than 33 paintings, sculptures, prints and photographs reflecting physical, ideological, political and emotional forms of deconstruction. Grades 8 to 12 students in the program participated from the following high schools: Alpha, Burnaby Central, Burnaby Mountain, Burnaby North, Burnaby South, Byrne Creek, and the Burnaby Youth Hub.

Artist Apprenticeship 2026: Realizations

Work from this year’s Artist Apprenticeship Program cohort can be viewed in the upper gallery. The intensive 9-week program for Grade 11 and 12 students is a collaboration between the District and Burnaby Art Gallery. Now in its 18th year, it facilitates hands-on learning with artists and art professionals, culminating in an exhibition.

The 12 students in this year’s Artist Apprenticeship Program are from Burnaby Mountain, Burnaby North, Burnaby South, Byrne Creek, Cariboo Hill, Moscrop, and the Burnaby Youth Hub.

The two exhibitions, (de)Construction and Realizations run May 1-31 at the Burnaby Art Gallery.
