At the first Board Meeting of the new school year, Trustees received a report on progress made over the last school year toward priorities outlined in the Strategic Plan.
The annual How We’re Doing Report provides highlights and accomplishments on system-wide work in everything from student excellence to supports provided to children and families.

Superintendent Karim Hachlaf presented the report to the Burnaby Board of Education at their September meeting.
I am proud of the work of staff and accomplishments of students outlined in this report. Some of the many highlights include a significant increase in the six-year graduation rate for Indigenous students, the first high school Unified Basketball league for youth with disabilities or diverse abilities, the first District-wide guidelines for Artificial Intelligence use at school, and engagement with thousands of people during the development of the District’s new Strategic Plan.”
The How We’re Doing Report reflects that schools are critical places for the whole community, highlighting work with newcomers to Canada, as well as increasing access to high quality child care.
This was the last report connected to the previous Strategic Plan, which originated in 2019. The Board’s new Strategic Plan builds on that work and sets out the priorities, goals and objectives that will guide the Burnaby School District for the next five years.
The Strategic Plan 2025-2030 was launched this August.
