The Burnaby School District recognizes the suspension of in-class instruction may pose additional strain on families of front-line essential service workers.
Children not yet school aged
Essential service workers who are looking for support for children who are not yet school aged can, as of March 31, fill out a new form to identify their need for urgent child care. The “Temporary Emergency Child Care for Essential Workers” sign up form and more information, including frequently asked questions, can be found at http://www.gov.bc.ca/essential-service-child-care or by calling 1-888-338-6622 and selecting option 4. You can also contact the Child Care Resource and Referral Centre. Information can be found on the province’s website here.
Children in Grades K – 6
The Burnaby School District is working hard, in partnership with our child care providers, to support children in Grades K – 6 whose parents are essential service workers. We are facilitating access to support before, during, and after regular school hours. More information can be found below.
The Government of BC is asking for school districts and child care providers to use the following prioritization of services for children of essential service workers:
- Tier 1: Health and Health Services, Social Services, Law Enforcement, First Responders and Emergency Response. If you are a Tier 1 Essential Service Worker and need support for your child in Grade K – 6, please click here.
- Tier 2: Defined as any occupation other than Tier 1 that is on the provincial list of essential services, which can be found in the backgrounder at the bottom of the page here. If you are a Tier 2 essential service worker and need support for your child in Grade K – 6, please click here.
