Much progress has been made on construction of the new Burnaby North Secondary. The busy worksite is right next to the existing school, which will be torn down when the new one is ready.
The Principal of Burnaby North Secondary, Dave Rawnsley, says he appreciates all the work that went into the design, which is making the most of the school’s location.
It’s going to be hard to beat the views from the classrooms. The sight lines are going to be amazing. We already have a tremendous feeling of pride among students and staff in being part of Burnaby North. This new building will enhance people’s enjoyment of being at school – and feelings of connection to place and the community at large.”
As well as being the new home away from home for North’s 1800 students, its design includes space for child care, adult education, and a conference centre.
In addition to the amenities of a brand-new building, it’s being built to LEED Gold standards to increase energy efficiency.
Construction for occupancy is expected to be complete early in 2023.
