Students across the District have been celebrating Lunar New Year while sharing culture, exploring traditions, and showcasing their learning.
At Forest Grove Elementary, home of the District’s Mandarin Language Arts Program, children from Kindergarten to Grade 7 learned about culture while celebrating the Year of the Snake.
Children and youth at many schools enjoyed traditional dances, along with other fun activities, including crafting paper lanterns, creating art and making snakes from clay.
At several schools families were part of the celebration, such as at Twelfth Avenue Elementary where a parent gave a performance for students and discussed everything from celebratory cuisine to the custom of red envelopes for the new year. At Confederation Park Elementary, a student shared one of their family traditions on a school broadcast.
