Students throughout the District have been earning recognition for their talents and skills. What follows are some recent examples.
Capitol Hill Elementary students took the top spot in their category in CBC’s Canadian Music Class Challenge for their rendition of “Cuddlebug.” Children from Capitol Hill, Second Street Community School, and University Highlands Elementary were finalists in five categories in the national music contest, which is entered by thousands of students. French Immersion and Core French students from the District were big winners in the annual Canadian Parents for French Dites-le en vidéo contest. In the competition, students showcase their French speaking skills through video on a topic of their choice. Eleven students from Burnaby Mountain, Cariboo Hill, and Moscrop Secondary schools collectively earned two 3rd place spots, five 2nd place titles, and four 1st place wins. BCIT’s School of Business hosted a competition for students from two school districts, with more than 100 attendees. In the Enactus BCIT High School Case Competition students had to work together to tackle a marketing case challenge, showcase their creativity, and demonstrate strategic thinking. Teams from Burnaby South Secondary took 1st and 3rd place. The work of the team from Burnaby North Secondary earned a 2nd-place finish.
Confederation Park Elementary was recently one of ten schools in Canada and the United States to be awarded an Exemplary School designation from the Arts Schools Network. The “education through the arts” school is one of the District’s Elementary Programs of Choice.
