The Burnaby Art Gallery is spotlighting the talents of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 with two public exhibitions running from May 5 to June 4.
“Magnitude of Enclosures” showcases the art of Grade 11 and 12 students from across the Burnaby School District. The Arts Alive “Out of This World” exhibition features the creations of elementary students from 15 schools.
The senior secondary students are part of the Burnaby Art Gallery’s Artist Apprenticeship program. The mentorship they receive provides them with tools to develop and curate an exhibition of their own artwork. It also supports their aspirations to pursue a career in the fine arts. Both exhibitions are made possible through partnership.
Burnaby Board of Education Chair Bill Brassington:
The opportunities for our students have been elevated by our more than four-decade partnership with the Burnaby Art Gallery. The quality of what these children and youth have produced for these exhibitions is nothing short of spectacular.”
Gallery staff work with teachers to support students throughout the school year, including through workshops and in-class visits.
