Arts Alive 2020: Student Art Exhibition at BAG Goes Virtual

Working with the art teachers at all eight of our high schools, the Burnaby Art Gallery – together with the Burnaby School District – is taking the annual Arts Alive exhibition virtual this year.

Fifty pieces of student art will be showcased in an online display. The collection of work represents the extraordinary talents of our students in Grades 8-12.

Burnaby Board of Education Chair, Gary Wong:

We’re so proud of these talented students. The entire Board is grateful to the gallery and district staff for their creative thinking to find a way to maintain our annual tradition during these unusual times and to publicly celebrate these incredible works of student art.”

The exhibition builds on a nearly 40 year partnership with the gallery (BAG) that has helped elevate the opportunities for our students.

Burnaby Art Gallery Fine Arts Programmer, Christina Froschauer:

Each year, numerous teachers, students, volunteers and administrators put a lot of time and effort into this exhibition; we are elated that the exhibition could be featured online for everyone to enjoy, alongside an Arts Alive art activity – a new way for teachers and students to engage with the artwork. Burnaby students are brimming with artistic talent; we are fortunate to feature student artwork for the past 38 years.”

Art helps students develop critical skills such as communication, innovation, and creativity.
