The talents and contributions of people in the Burnaby Schools community have been earning special recognition. Below are some examples.
Moscrop Secondary Math teacher Stephanie Langille won the Ivan L. Johnson Memorial Award from the BC Association of Mathematics Teachers for her teaching excellence and mentorship. Also at Moscrop, Math teacher Danny Young was awarded the McEwen Family Teacher Recognition Award from the University of British Columbia after being nominated by a former student for having a significant impact on student success.
A newcomer student at Byrne Creek Community School had his murals displayed at the Welcome Centre for the Immigrant Services Society (ISS) of BC. Yosyas Zena came to Canada last spring. After connecting with the District’s Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program, he took an ISS summer class that led to his murals being showcased.
The District has earned a national Bravo Award for the poster series Your Healthy Digital Life. The award from the Canadian Association of Communicators in Education (CACE) in the Coup de Coeur category recognizes exemplary work in school public relations, communications, marketing and engagement.
