Every year, tens of thousands of students in music classes from across Canada sign up for the CBC Music Challenge. This year, several Burnaby Schools were selected as finalists when they made the list of “national top tens:”

CAPITOL HILL ELEMENTARY – “On My Own”
CATEGORY: JUNIOR INSTRUMENTAL (Grades 7-10)
SECOND STREET COMMUNITY SCHOOL – “Knocking at the Door”
CATEGORY: JUNIOR VOCAL (Grades 7-10)
SECOND STREET COMMUNITY SCHOOL – “Salvation”
BURNABY SOUTH SECONDARY – “Wonder”
In 2019, the Burnaby School District’s very own Sound Wave Handbell Choir took top spot in their category.
This year’s winners will be announced December 14 with first place receiving $3,000 in new musical instruments, along with bragging rights and a plaque.
