Last weekend, in recognition of Black History Month, Burnaby Mountain Secondary, in partnership with the National Congress Black Women’s Foundation put together an impressive day-long conference entitled Race Matters. Approximately 230 students and 70 adults arrived at Burnaby Mountain to participate. Minnijean Brown Trickey, who in 1957 resisted opposition to the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School delivered a keynote so engaging, that her question and answer portion extended beyond her allotted time. Following the keynote, Dr. Annette Henry, a UBC Professor and Kevan “Scruffmouth” Cameron led a successful youth symposium. LEARN MORE
