Chaffey-Burke Elementary students were excited to see the gates pulled back to their new playground – designed for all to enjoy.
The school was one of 40 in BC to receive $125,000 from the Provincial Government for a new accessible playground. The funding announcement was made last fall for the Burnaby School District totalling $250,000 for both Chaffey-Burke and Edmonds Community School. The District’s facilities crews worked rain or shine on both, completing Edmonds’ playground in the Fall of 2020 and Chaffey-Burke’s in late February.
In the 2019-20 school year, new accessible playgrounds were also installed at Sperling Elementary, Maywood and Second Street Community Schools – also complete with accessible features like ramps and other adaptive equipment so that everyone can play. Equity, access and inclusion are an integral part of the District’s values.
