Environmental Sustainability

Burnaby School Districts GreenTeam Steering Committee – Who are we?

Formed in December 2009, the Green Team Steering Committee (GTSC) guides and supports environmental sustainability initiatives across the entire school district. Members of the committee represent key figures in both the Educational Services and Facility Services branches of the district. We work to support and coordinate sustainability initiates by students, teachers, support staff, parents and administrators.

The GTSC also provides support for the Burnaby Youth Sustainability Network and individual Green Teams located at each school. The committee meets on a weekly basis and works on a wide variety of initiatives that relate to energy conservation, water reduction and recycling, food security, water quality and a host of other topics.

Burnaby Youth Sustainability Network – BYSN

Burnaby has made sustainability a priority throughout the district, a topic that concerns us all. Key to sustainability success to date has been the enthusiastic leadership of district students who continue to be a tremendous resource of skills, empowerment and inspiration as we move forward with district sustainability initiatives.
