Confederation Park Earns Prestigious Arts Award

Confederation Park Elementary has been awarded the 2018 Arts Integration Award from the Arts Schools Network (ASN) – North America’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools. The award celebrates outstanding leadership in bringing arts integration strategies into the curriculum. Principal Helena Readman and teachers received the award at the annual ASN Conference on October 26 in Orange County, California.

At Confederation Park Elementary, “Education through the Arts” students and teachers interact with and through the arts. Students can develop their craft of music, dance, drama and visual arts, as set by the Ministry of Education’s curriculum. The school is committed to delivering a rich and authentic arts-integrated curriculum where students explore themes, ideas and concepts through various creative processes and demonstrate learning in a variety of ways.

Student learning is celebrated and communicated with performances and showcases of student work. And it is the daily sharing and presenting of student work which provide students with challenges to develop their engagement through the arts, including the competencies of communication, personal and social, and critical and creative thinking. In addition, students and teachers are given the opportunity to participate in specialized projects where new skills are developed and enhanced through Artist-in-Residence programs. The school’s Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is invaluable and also has a significant role in all aspects of the school community.
