Elected by acclamation by fellow trustees, Gary Wong is the new Chair of the Burnaby Board of Education. A Burnaby resident for more than 25 years, he has served as a trustee since 2008 (re-elected in 2011 and 2014). He and his wife have raised two children who have both graduated from Burnaby schools.
Congratulations and gratitude go to Trustee Ron Burton, who stepped down as Chair and is retiring after 10 terms, having been first elected to the Board in 1987. Ron has made tremendous contributions to building a strong public education system in Burnaby.
With the rest of the Board, Trustees Wong and Burton have worked hard to provide inclusive, welcoming environments, and engaging learning opportunities to inspire each child to reach their potential.
