Arts Alive and Transitions are exhibitions of student art on display at the Burnaby Art Gallery until June 9. A nearly 40 year partnership with the gallery (BAG) has helped elevate the opportunities for our students.
This year, Arts Alive features student work from Kindergarten to Grade 7. Transitions showcases the creations of Grade 11 and 12 students, who are part of the gallery’s Artist Apprenticeship Program. They received guidance to develop and curate an exhibition of their own artwork. The program also supports students with aspirations to pursue a career in the fine arts.
Art helps students develop critical skills such as communication, innovation, and creativity. Additionally, Arts Alive explores the relationship between math and art – this is one example of how curriculum can intersect.
Visit BAG to see “Arts Alive & Transitions 2019” on until June 9. Entrance is by donation. The exhibitions are impressive, thought provoking, and worth the visit. More information about the Gallery’s hours and location can be found here.
