The Provincial Outreach Program: Deaf & Hard of Hearing is pleased to announce the launch of a new initiative, DEAF CONNECTIONS WEEK (DCW) that will take place April 4-6, 2016. Students can sometimes be very isolated in rural or faraway communities and miss interaction with like peers. This exciting event will create opportunities for Deaf & Hard of Hearing youth from grades 6 to 12 to meet with their peers from across the province while offering valuable interaction and bonding opportunities.
DEAF CONNECTIONS WEEK will include three unique days of activities for its participants.
April 4 is Education Day. It will offer 27 students from across the province the opportunity to be integrated into the British Columbia School for the Deaf for the day and experience life in a completely Deaf environment.
April 5 is the Optimist Speech Competition Day. It will offer deaf students the opportunity to compete with each other for prizes and have the opportunity to interact with their peers throughout the day. It will be held at Michael J Fox Theatre.
April 6 is Friendship Day at the Vancouver Aquarium – and will include an opportunity to sleep with the belugas!
